The Central Coast of California is renown for its local, small-scale farms and produce stands. It’s so fun and gratifying to eat local, to know that the things you are putting in your mouth were grown in the ground nearby. It’s sweet to support local farmers and their businesses.
Every summer our family looks forward to the opening of the Okie Strawberry Stand in Grover Beach. Not sure if it is the plot near the beach or the sandy soil or what, but these are the BIGGEST and best darn strawberries we’ve ever tasted. Seriously!
Our family attacks the flat when it hits the kitchen counter and usually we hear “OKUI STRAWBERRIES!” It’s something we look forward to every Spring and Summer.
And strawberries aren’t all that’s available. On a recent visit to the quaint, down home Okui Produce Stand, we also notice yummy peaches, nectarines, plums and berries.
Okui Strawberry Stand is a local favorite and a bit of hidden gem. They don’t do social media or promote themselves too much, so they’re easy to miss. But if you’re coming the Central Coast or have booked a stay at Wild Hair Retreats, look them up and stop by.
